As you can see most of my calories come from Dinner and Breakfast, which are two really important meals of the week. I think I need to work on getting my snacks a little bit lower.

As you can see my work outs are pretty even, Tuesday looked to be the high day and Thursday was the low. It rain all day Thursday and therefore I wasn't able to go on a 30 minute walk with the Pug.

I feel good about week one and it makes me more motivated! I can't wait to hear everyone else's results!

Movie Monday

Last night we watched the movie called The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. This movie is sad, but it is so good. I definitely recommend renting it and watching it.

From IMDB:

Young Bruno lives a wealthy lifestyle in Pre-war Germany along with his mother, elder sister, and army Commandant father. The family re-locate to the countryside where his father is assigned to commandeer a prison camp. A few days later, Bruno befriends another youth, strangely dressed in striped pajamas, named Shmuel who lives behind an electrified fence. Bruno will soon find out that he is not permitted to befriend his new friend as he is a Jew, and that the neighboring yard is actually a prison camp for Jews awaiting extermination.

Seasonal Allergies=Food Allergies

I was reading the news tonight online and saw this article. I had to post it right away and email it to a few people who think I am nuts, when I tell them I can't eat fresh fruit, especially around the spring time...here is an explanation:

Allergy patients are not always sensitive to all the foods that contain pollen-related proteins. Some people react to just one or two foods.

People with seasonal allergic rhinitis — which affects one in five Americans — know that when the pollen count rises in the spring and fall they’ll be tormented by chronic sneezing, a stuffy or runny nose, watery eyes and sleep problems. But what many people may not realize is that the same chemicals that cause hay fever may also trigger a reaction to certain raw foods.

“As many as one-third of the people with seasonal allergies experience oral allergy syndrome,” says Dr. Clifford W. Bassett, an allergist and the medical director of Allergy and Asthma Care of New York, and vice chairman of public education at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.

Such cross-reactivity — which occurs when a pollen allergy also causes a reaction to food that contains a similar protein chemical — is not widely understood beyond allergy specialists, says immunologist Dr. Hannelore Brucker, who treats many seasonal allergy patients with food-related allergies in her practice at the Southdale Allergy and Asthma Clinic in Minneapolis. Patients who see a regular doctor for their hay fever symptoms and especially those who self-medicate with over-the-counter remedies are less likely to be aware of it.

Immune system in overdrive
During an allergic attack caused by inhaling pollen in grass, weeds or trees, the immune system goes into overdrive by overproducing histamines and other chemicals. Certain vegetables and fruits contain the very same proteins, called profilins, that are found in various pollen culprits. When a child or adult eats an offending food, the body's immune system responds as if it were actually ingesting pollen.

Typical symptoms of oral allergy syndrome include a sudden tingling or swelling in the lips, mouth or throat. Other symptoms may include gum, eye or nose irritation. Some rare reactions may be severe, including shock.

Allergy patients are not always sensitive to all the foods that contain pollen-related proteins. Some people react to just one or two foods. But, unlike nasal allergies, which are usually limited to high pollen seasons — from April to June and mid-August to the first frost — the food reactions can happen all year.

“Once your body is allergic to pollen, the allergy to the corresponding food continues, even if there is no pollen present,” Brucker says. “The mechanism is the same. Either way, you’re allergic to the same protein.”

The protein in ragweed pollen is also related to the chemicals in cantaloupe, banana, sunflower seeds, zucchini and cucumber. Grass pollen is related to peaches, celery, melons, tomatoes and oranges.

Birch pollen is related to a large number of vegetables, fruits and nuts, including potatoes, celery, walnuts, apples, pears, peaches and cherries and other pitted fruit.

Some highly sensitive people can experience swelling of the hands simply by peeling raw potatoes, says Brucker.

Not the same as food allergy
If you don't want to give up your favorite vegetable or fruits, thoroughly cooking them changes the food’s protein structure, thereby rendering the offending foods harmless, says Brucker. Although you might get a reaction to raw cherries, the fruit may not affect you baked in a pie. But she advises allergy sufferers to check with a doctor before cooking foods linked to their allergy.

Peeling the fruit or vegetable however, may not help, either. “The proteins may be found throughout the fruit and vegetable, not just near the skin,” says Brucker.

Although both food allergies and oral allergy syndrome pose problems for those who are affected by them, there's a difference in the severity of the response. People with oral allergy syndrome have reactions that are mainly in the mouth or lips. But with a serious food allergy, the whole body reacts; itchy eyes and flushed warm skin may quickly progress to a swelling of the throat and bronchial tubes, says Brucker.

"This, in turn, can shut down the airways, leading to a life-threatening situation" she says.

“In some cases, the oral allergy syndrome experienced by people with seasonal allergies can progress into a food allergy,” Bassett says.

Peeps

I've never really enjoyed Peeps, in fact I don't like them, that is until last week.I was talking to my friend Teresa about peeps and she was saying how she loves them. My mom LOVES peeps also and I never really enjoyed them, I know lots of people do. But fast forward to last weekend, when I was at CVS with my mom and saw these cute little marshmellow bunnies staring at me. I figured I'd pick up a pack and see if Peeps and I were friends again. Well we were. Really for 110 calories and 4 peeps no fat, some sugar, not a bad small snack.

Fast forward once again to yesterday and I was at Walgreens/Walmart and found these guys:
Sugar free PEEPS! 3 peeps for 60 cals, no fat, no sugar, 1 gram of protein(yay), I can justify it a bit! It even taste a bit like my favorite ice cream, Cake Batter from Coldstone Creamery!

So I have a new snack love, and I'm gonna say this all thanks to Teresa, because we just talked about peeps last week and that's what sparked my interest!

Step 4 20/20

Step 4 of 20/20 is Reading Labels, Measuring and Recipes with Nutritional Info.
One of the most important things to familiarize yourself with is serving sizes. Aside from some produce, the serving size and nutritional information is right there on the package!
What most people DON'T do, is measure. Do you really know how much 3/4 c. of Cheerios is? How about 1 c. of skim milk? You think you're consuming 200 calories, but are you?
One thing you should always do, and invest in, is measuring tools. It's funny cause I'll our some ceral into a bowl and be like, hm that looks like a cup and when I go to measure it, it's always more or less. This is something I'm definitely going to be more aware of.

Now about weighted measurements - it's not a bad idea to have a food scale. Did you know a serving of chicken is 4 oz.? You know how when you get the 6 oz. steak, it looks so small?

I saw these plates one time on someone's blog, that I really wish I could find again. They were plates that have the portion sizes already marked on the plate. If I find them, I'll post it!

Ash highly recommends picking up a nutritional info book with common ingredients serving sizes, calories and fat.

*Some of post adapted from Ashlee's Blog*

Step 3-20/20

Step 3 is Workout and Eating Plan

My workout plan is:
MWFS-Run days, currently training for 5k.
T, TH-Jillian DVD days/30 min walk with pug
Sunday-Rest/Dog walk

Food Plan-

I'm gonna be honest here and I'm not going to ever be able to plan my food out weeks in advance, I tried it for the past two weeks and it just doesn't work, for one because Chris will decided he wants something else for dinner that night, or something comes up. I'm not terribly worried about this because we don't eat a lot of junk and we never eat at fast food places on a routine basis. I'm gonna try it again though for this and see where it goes.

Step 2- 20/20

Step 2 is setting goals:

Ash recommends making a visual chart to track the progress we are making so here is my chart:

Our first weigh in is Friday March 20th. This will be my starting weight. Every Friday from then on, will be weigh in day for the next 20 weeks.

I am going to have a 10 lb. reward, and a 20 lb. reward.

My -10lb reward is going to be a new outfit from anywhere!

My -20lb reward is a weekend in Maine with the hubby!

20/20 Step 1

Step 1:
Make a plan and set your goal!
My plan: To lose 20 lbs. in 20 weeks
My goal: To lose 20lbs!

If I'm going to lose 20 lbs. in 20 weeks, I need to burn 3500 calories per week over my BMR.

My BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is around 1750, different calculators vary a bit. In order to burn 3500 calories per week, I will need to eat less then/burn 1750 calories/work out more.

So I'm really going have to start tracking my calories more then I do now to be sure of what I'm taking and burning. Spark people is a good way to get an estimate of how many calories you've burned doing daily activities.

In the end, ITS ALL ABOUT CALORIES IN VERSUS CALORIES OUT!

*Post all modified from Ash's blog, but inputed with my information*

20lbs in 20 weeks.

Many of you who read my blog daily know that I love Ash's blog, Ash is Fit. She has been on a weight lost journey as well and it about 20 pounds from reaching her 100 pound mark. For the last few pounds she's decided to make this 20 pounds in 20 weeks challenge and has invited anyone to join in with her! She's a Jillian lover as well and uses her DVD's. So a few us(knottie girls) decided to join in with Ash, who is also a knottie/nestie! I'll be posting all of the information we need to post on my blog so you can keep up to date on it all or if you want to join in!

Jillian's No More Trouble Zones

So earlier I reviewed Jillian's other new DVD, Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. I finally got my copy of No More Trouble Zones in the mail. Just like the Shred and Banish Fat, you get a work out from Jillian once again. I really liked this one a lot, it probably is so far my favorite Jillian DVD. It's all toning/shaping and ab work. In this DVD you do 6 different sets of exercise and literally work every muscle in the body. In this DVD you do use weights for most of the exercises even some of the ab work you do chest exercises with the weights. I was so sore for two days after I first did this, but it was a good hurt! It's a great add to my non-run days! I highly suggest looking this up on your on demand cable or you tube or even ordering it!

Movie Monday

Last night we rented the movie Rachel Getting Married. It's defiently an odd movie. Chris wouldn't even finish watching it with me, so I had to finish on my own. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't a movie I'd watch again or really tell anyone to watch. But here is a quick snyopisis on it:

Rachel Getting Married is a about the return of an estranged daughter to the family home for her sister's wedding. Kym's reemergence throws a wrench into the family dynamics, forcing long-simmering tensions to surface in ways both hilarious and heartbreaking. The movie opens with Kym (Anne Hathaway) waiting outside the rehab center with a fellow patient Walter and a staff member named Rosa. A car pulls up, and Rosa helps Kym to the car. Carol (Anna Deavere-Smith) and Kym's father Paul (Bill Irwin) pick her up. They catch up on things as they drive away. Kym's sister Rachel is getting married. Kym asks if mom will be there, and Paul assures Kym she will. After a while of driving, Kym asks to stop the car to get some Pepsi at a convenience store. As she walks in, the counter girl notices her and asks if she was on "Cops" They drive home where Kym meets and greets everyone. She then goes to meet her sister, Rachel (Rosemarie Dewitt), who is getting stylized by her maid-of-honor Emma (Anisa George). The sisters catch up on old times before Kym leaves the room and heads to hers. Kym asks when she is going to meet her fiancée, and Rachel says it will be this evening.

Later on in the day, Rachel tells her father she has to go to a meeting and to take a urine test. Paul cannot drive her down to the hospital, and the car's off limits. Kym rides a bike to the hospital, where she takes the test and then arrives late to the AA meeting, clumsily knocking over chairs and interrupting a man who was speaking. We hear a lot of testimonials, and then Kym goes home where Rachel introduces her to her fiancée Sidney (Tunde Adebimpe) and his best man Kieran (Mather Zickel). Turns out Kieran was the man she interrupted at the AA meeting.

Next we see Kym having sex with Kieran (his clothes are off while hers stay on) before she tries on the dresses Emma made. Kym gets angered and asks Rachel why she didn't choose her to be the made of honor, before complaining about the family being against her and figuratively commenting on "burning the house down". Rachel and Kym get in a little verbal argument, before Rachel bows to Kym's demands and asks Emma to step down from her role and become a bridesmaid. Emma is shocked, but complies (she holds a grudge to Kym for the rest of the movie).

The family is then seen at the rehearsal reception, where music and comedy routines are presented to Rachel and Sydney. They proceed to have the rehearsal dinner, where Kym feels like an outsider because of no one to talk to (whereas her sister tells her she's known basically everybody since eighth grade). Rachel and Kym finally meet and greet their mother, Abby (Debra Winger) when she arrives. Abby tries to talk Kym out of smoking during the party, to which she complies.

The testimonials are given by family members and friends. Kym is one of the last to speak, announcing herself as the "harbinger of doom" for the evening, and talks about her life in rehab and forgiveness being one of the 12 steps. Kym then apologizes to her sister and everybody for the harm she inflicted on them, then ends with a Hawaiian greeting.

When the family returns home, Rachel critiques Kym's apology while reading from the dictionary the meaning of the word. Paul tries to defend Kym 's actions, but Rachel talks right through him. Rachel and Kym get into an argument, in which it is revealed Rachel is pregnant, to which the family is overjoyed. Even though Kym is happy about the pregnancy, she gets mad for changing the topic before she walks away. Rachel states that she wishes Ethan was here to see this and that she is really tired.

The next day begins as Abby sits down with Rachel. Abby asks how everybody is doing, and how Kym is behaving. Rachel doesn't know how to answer that and Abby assures her that things will work out.

The scene cuts to Kym at the AA meeting, where she reveals that when she was 16, she was high on pills and accidentally ran her car off the overpass and into the river, killing her little brother Ethan, who she was baby-sitting. Kym then states that she is tying to forgive herself, and states she is on her own path. Click Here!

Kym returns to her house with Kieran, who drives her home, as it begins to rain. The wedding tent has been raised up, as Rachel and her friends make the seating arrangements. Kym protests against sitting next to Grandma Rose, but their father Paul intervenes and seats her with the twins. Rachel excuses herself as she takes Paul in the kitchen to try and talk about Kym's recent behavior, but is quickly interrupted by Rachel's fiancée Sidney who challenges him to a dishwashing contest after Sidney critiques him on putting the dishes the wrong way. They set the challenge for 2 minutes, to which Sidney completes his task. It is Paul's turn, and is 15 seconds away from completing when he asks for more dishes. Kym hands him more, but Paul stops halfway and loses the bet. Paul appears at a loss for words as everybody sees what he was looking at. Everybody leaves the room, and Kym sees that one of the dishes she accidentally pulled out was the one that Ethan made. She quietly gets angry with herself and Sidney puts a hand on her back and quietly walks away. Kym is next seen putting all the dishes away.

Rachel and Kym go out later that day to get their hair and nails done. A dark man, whom she recognizes as being in one of her former AA classes, stops Kym. She is uncomfortable at first, but talks to him anyway. The man wants to thank her for changing his life, and refers to an activity they did in AA where members anonymously wrote down why they are here and passed it around. He got Kym's, and tells her that reading about her abuse at the hands of her uncle caused him to confront his own personal demons. Rachel overhears this and storms out in a rage, Kym in pursuit trying to apologize to her. Rachel drives away, leaving Kym stranded at the salon.

Paul asks Rachel what happened when she doesn't show up back at the house with Kym. Rachel has a talk with her father, saying that Rachel lies to everybody. Kym comes home and confronts Rachel, while Paul demands to know what is going on. Rachel reveals to Paul what she overheard. Paul asks if this is true. Kym states that it was one of her first times at a meeting, and she wanted to write something down that sounded interesting. Kym and Rachel exchange a verbal argument back-and-forth, until Kym finally storms out of the room. (From this scene, we learn that Paul is divorced from Abby and Carol is both Rachel and Kym's stepmother) The setup of the wedding goes on as planned, until Paul asks Rachel if she has seen her sister as it starts to turn into night.

Kym has taken the car and gone straight to her mother's new boyfriend's house (Carol is Kym's stepmother). Kym confronts her mother as to why she left the family in the first place. The two women get into a little scuffle and Abby slaps Kym. Kym is shocked by the fact her mother slapped her, and hits her back. Kym gets back in the car and leaves, crying. She speeds up the car and drives it into a sign and into the forest. The car smacks into a tree, deflating the air bag. She spends all night in the car as runners come to her rescue early morning.

A bruised Kym gets a ride from a friendly tow-trucker who drops her off across from her house. Paul and Carol open the door, worried, but there is no time as the wedding is minutes away. She goes up the stairs and knocks on Rachel's door. Rachel opens the door and helps Kym get ready for the big event.

The next scene is at the wedding, where Sidney is waiting for his bride. The music plays and Paul walks in with Rachel. Rachel and Sidney both say their vows (and Sidney sings a chorus of Neil Young's "Unknown Legend"). The two share a kiss and everyone dances after the wedding. Kym looks around for Abby as the party drags on into the night.

Kym walks by the moonlight and sees Rachel and Sidney dancing. She joins in and asks Rachel if she's seen Abby. Kieran joins and the four of them dance together before Abby comes in with her new fiancée Andrew. Abby is saying her good-byes as she is flying to Washington in the morning. The sisters are both speechless, but they wish her luck anyway. Kym excuses herself as Abby & Andrew exit the house. Kym is stopped by Paul, who introduces her to a woman who is opening a law firm in the Connecticut area, and she gives Kym her business card. Kym excuses herself to see her mother's car leave the driveway.

The next day Kym wakes up and packs, ready to go back into rehab. She says good-bye to Kieran, who gives her his phone number and she promises to visit him in Hawaii. They share a good-bye kiss before Rosa's car approaches. Rachel comes out to greet Rosa and says her farewells to Kym. Rachel watches as the car drives off. She goes back in the house and watches the tent being taken down as the credits roll.

Snow Day

So I'm really, really late with this post, but a few weeks ago we actually got a measurable amount of snow according to Chris! Here we were are in South Jersey we got about 9-10 inches. Chris of course still went to work, but Puggie and I spent the day in the snow and outside shoveling. Though we pay the association fee for our development to take care of snow removal, we still have to shovel our sidewalks/driveways. That's fine with me though because it's not very big and it's great exercise! Here is just a picture I took out the back deck while the sun was setting:
I'm just glad we got one big snow storm before the warm weather comes. It only stayed with us for a few days because we got almost 70 degree temps soon after the snow fell!

Movie Monday!

This Monday I got a movie that I have seen in the red box machine for a few weeks now. It was called Tyler Perry's, The Family That Prey's.

It was a good movie. It is about a wealthy socialite Charlotte Cartwright (Kathy Bates) and her dear friend Alice Pratt (Alfre Woodard), a working class woman of high ideals, have enjoyed a lasting friendship throughout many years. Suddenly, their lives become mired in turmoil as their adult children's extramarital affairs, unethical business practices and a dark paternity secret threaten to derail family fortunes and unravel the lives of all involved. Alice's self-centered newlywed daughter Andrea (Sanaa Lathan) is betraying her trusting husband Chris (Rockmond Dunbar) by engaging in a torrid affair with her boss and mothers best friends son William (Cole Hauser). While cheating on his wife Jillian (Kadee Strickland) with a string of ongoing dalliances with his mistress Andrea, William's true focus is to replace the COO of his mothers lucrative construction corporation. Meanwhile, Alice's other daughter Pam (Taraji Henson), a kind but no nonsense woman married to a hard working construction worker (Tyler Perry), tries to steer the family in a more positive direction. While paternity secrets, marital infidelity, greed and unsavory business dealings threaten to derail both families, Charlotte and Alice decide to take a breather from it all by making a cross-country road trip in which they rediscover themselves and possibly find a way to save their families from ruin. Stupid Birds

Yes, the title of this post seems silly. But the Philadelphia Eagles, have got to be the stupidest team ever during free agency. Not only did they sign a hurt player that's still recovering from a torn ACL, but they let Brian Dawkins go. Seriously, if there was one player that was a FA(Free Agent) he is the one guy you want to keep. Dawkins has been with this team for 13 years, 13 LOYAL years. The Eagle have been the only team he's ever played for. Maybe, because I'm a girl and we see the emotional side of thing, I see it as this way: You have this team player who has been with you for 13 years, he has never caused any drama, never caused any problems, he is one the leaders of the team, he is the HEART and SOUL of your defense. At the NFC Championship game this past year in Arizona(yes Chris and I were there) BDawk was the one of the only people on that bench that was trying to pump the whole team up while they were down and out in the first have. Dawk, said after that he couldn't believe that when the defense was out on the field, he could still hear, "E-A-G-L-E-S" and "DEFENSE." He better off cause my throat was sore, haha, anyways. All the Eagles wanted to offer Bdawk was a 2 year contract for 5 million. Seriously give him what he wants, yeah he's old, but he's still got game left in him and if he started to perform under expectations of the NFL then cut him. But No, instead he goes to Denver and gets a 5 year, 17 million deal. CEO Jeff "Idiot" Lurie said this, "“Brian Dawkins has been one of the pillars of this franchise for 13 years. He helped lead us to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. Brian embodies everything you look for in a professional athlete and human being. I have been fortunate to witness his impeccable character, his passion for the game of football and his commitment to being the best player he could be. I look forward to continuing a close relationship with him once his playing days are over. His legacy as an Eagle will last forever and will ultimately land him in Canton as a Hall of Famer." WHY, WHY if you can speak that highly of someone would you let him go. Everyone in Eagles country is very upset with this, if you are a member of the Eagles Message Boards, I invite you to go on there and read what every other fan is saying. Some are even saying that they are taking their names off the waiting list for tickets because of this and because the Eagles increased ticket prices once again for this upcoming season. Granted, yes I know we Philly fans of any of our sports teams are harsh, but this is just stupid. At least Dawkins will have a familiar face in Denver as Correll Buckhalter signed a deal with them as well. So, Dawk when we see you next season(because we play Denver at home), in your new team's uniform, it will be odd, but good riddens. I'm sure you will get the heart warming applause you got when you were an Eagle.

Stupid Eagles. Joe Banner and the rest of you, learn how free agency works, please.
